Believe me, if there was a book called ‘How to live your life,’ complete with itemised checklists, I’d follow it to the letter. Where is my self belief?
Before I started this blog, I read four books on blogging and got myself in a muddle trying to follow all their advice. I’ve done the same with the book I’m writing.
Because I don’t trust myself. I don’t think I am as clever or creative as the people who write these books and I am not confident enough in my ability to create the things I want in my life.
So, I need to trust myself more.I need to have more self belief. That doesn’t mean I am going to stop seeking information, I need to learn from others who have more expertise and experience than me, but ultimately I am the only person who can decide how I want my blog to be, or my book – or my life!
I have a vision for my life and I need to believe that I possess the skills to bring it into reality.
Of course, developing self belief isn’t easy. But there are a couple of sure-fire ways to boost your confidence.
1. Write a list of all your accomplishments
This is a great way to give yourself a boost. Get a big sheet of paper and start writing down everything you have achieved in your life big and small. When you think about it, you will be surprised by all the great things you have done. From work to family, to leisure, your life is full of successes. Write them all down, from passing exams to baking a loaf of bread. When you do this, you will realise that once you set your mind to something you usually achieve it.
2. Ask others what they admire about you
Our friends and loved ones often have a much more objective view of us than we have of ourselves. Okay, so they may be able to see our faults. However, they are also able to clearly see what is good about us, too. Our closest friends and family members love us for a reason. Ask them what some of those reasons are. Hearing how great you are form people you love is a wonderful way to get a boost of self-confidence.
So, with your new-found self belief, what are you going to trust yourself to do this year?
